Inspirational Infants! The panorama of prevention possibilities and public health advocacy for babies, their melancholic mothers and the forgotten fathers

Clinical Associate Professor Anne Sved Williams AM

All parents want the best for their children. The first 1000 days of infants’ lives define much of what happens for children as they mature. And yet, despite knowledge of what helps, many children receive problematic beginnings and intergenerational transfer of mental health problems is common. What do we know about infants and the early influences on them, and what has been successful in changing pathways? Will we solve this problem in the consulting room or in the public health arena? Answers may be comforting. Or are they confronting?
