Let’s talk about…Supporting wellbeing and resilience

The MHCSA, funded by Mental Health Strategy & Planning, is pleased to offer free training for people who provide line management to mental health Lived Experience (Peer) Workers – or whose organisation is supporting them towards a role in which they will.

These workshops are non-accredited and are based on needs identified by Managers and Leaders, as well as current best practice. The aim is to equip line managers with knowledge and tools that can support them to better understand Lived Experience work and effectively recruit and lead designated roles. The training is a safe space for leaders to learn, share ideas and ask questions about Lived Experience workforce.

We look at:

  • The underpinning foundations, values and principles guiding ethical Lived Experience/Peer practice
  • Lived Experience as a skill set, application to designated roles and how this differs to being in other roles and having lived experience
  • Tips for recruitment
  • Line Management and Lived Experience practice support
  • Addressing the ‘elephants in the room’
  • Sharing ideas and developing strategies for implementing best practice, developing Lived Experience workforce and embedding the role

The information presented along with opportunity for open, non-judgemental participation supports managers in a number of ways, including:

  • Increasing confidence in leading and line managing Lived Experience/Peer workforce
  • Promoting a more effective Lived Experience worker/leader working relationship
  • Providing connections across programs and organisations
  • Supporting organisations to be part of the development of a sustainable, skilled and
  • qualified Lived Experience workforce within SA

There are two sessions, each running for 4 hours including a 30-minute break time for lunch.

Session Details:

  • Tuesday 12th May and Wednesday 13th May 2026 – 2 days of Training
