The mindshare Mental Health Awareness Award is part of the Fringe Awards Program and presented on behalf of our online creative mental health community. mindshare provides a voice for those with lived experience of mental health challenges. Each year this community of writers with lived experience become dedicated volunteer reviewers who judge this Award.
mindshare’s vision is to foster a creative dialogue between people with lived experience of mental health challenges and the wider community to combat stigma and increase awareness. During the 2024 Adelaide Fringe mindshare reviewers saw and reviewed nearly 50 creative works that were advertised as having a mental health theme. The works were reviewed under a criteria that examines how the work destigmatises mental health challenges, how much of it is informed by lived experience and how it progresses the community’s understanding of mental health challenges.
The most outstanding work is awarded the “Mental Health Awareness Award presented by mindshare” and receives $1,000
This year was our greatest amount of shows reviewed. Our team of 14 reviewers were out from day one reviewing 44 shows, with nearly half of them receiving 4 – 5 stars.
This year’s winner was Museum of Modernia by Sam Kissajukian’s. You can read our review here. Sam unapologetically starts his show by telling us he lives with bi-polar and his aim is to destigmatise it. What follows is a beautiful mix of story telling, understanding, laughter and amazing visual art.
Thanks to Taimi Allan, Mental Health Commissioner for presenting our Award.
